Eastlake style lamp table, circa 1875. The little wheels are casters, and they are original. Charles Eastlake was an influential English architect and designer, and an early champion of the "modern" science of hygeine. He believed that the prevailing Victorian taste for excessively carved furniture and layers of carpeting and draperies fostered unhealthy dust and germs. He favored furniture with clean straight lines and simple incised accents. His designs have a masculine, architectural appearance
