Pair Potthast mahogany pineapple top twin beds c1920

Item # 6554

This matched pair of hand made mahogany pineapple top twin beds were made by the Potthast Brothers in Baltimore, MD, in 1920. Potthast made the highest quality reproductions of 18th century American furniture from the late 19th to early 20th century. The company used only the finest matching mahogany and hired the most skilled craftsman of the time. The carving detail is superb. This is the finest pair of twin beds we have ever come across. Both beds are made of solid stock mahogany. The side rails are single boards that each measure 1 and one half inches thick by 8 inches wide and 75 inches long. The head boards are each 42 inches wide and 66 inches high. The side posts were cut out, turned, and carved from a single 3 inch square block of mahogany. The original finish is in excellent condition.

Queen Anne mahogany lowboy attributed to Harold Margolis

Item # 6555

Queen Anne style mahogany lowboy attributed to Harold Margolis. This lowboy is entirely handmade from book matched mahogany. The front and the drawer slides are mortised into the case. Each drawer has fine hand cut dovetails. Original finish. This is an exact duplicate of an American Queen Anne lowboy circa 1780. One very minor repair to the cap of one foot. Deep shell carved single drawer front. Hand made brass pulls. Measures 41 inches wide, 21 and one half inches deep, and 24 inches high. This piece is unsigned, but we believe it was made by the Margolis shop in Hartford, CT. The early Margolis pieces had paper labels that fell off over time.
