Antique Victorian lions head mahogany Morris Chair

Antique Victorian lions head mahogany Morris Chair

Item # 4429

Antique Victorian lions head mahogany Morris Chair. It is named after William Morris, the 19th century English poet and designer. It is English, circa 1910, and. appears to be mahogany. Most Morris are made of oak in the straight-lined Arts and Crafts style. The form of this chair was modern in its day, but its ornamentation was traditional: the roaring lions, paw feet, shell-carved apron, and chair splat sides are borrowed from 18th century Chippendale furniture. Morris chairs are still popular today because of their comfort and durability

Antique gentleman's chest of drawers 1870

Item # 4334

Antique gentleman's chest of drawers. I don't think it ever had much to do with a plantation. Its origin is northern Europe, probably Sweden or Germany. It was made circa 1870. It appears to be made of oak, but I cannot be certain through photographs. European oak has a more closed and even grain than ours. You can see a similar chest on my website, item 3587, for comparison. The basic form of each chest is the same; note the upper bow-front drawers and the bun feet. The difference is in the level of craftsmanship. Walnut is a finer wood, and the matched veneers and turned columns are sophisticated features.

Period American Country Walnut tavern table with drawer c1790

Item # 5040

Period American Country Walnut tavern table with drawer c1790. This wonderful tavern table was deaccessioned from Winterthur. The Winterthur inventory number is in the drawer. All original top, legs, drawer and frame. The under slides that hold the original drawer and some glue blocks are the only pieces not original to the table. The patina is a rich delicious old worn waxed look, just what we like to see on early American country furniture. This tavern table measures 42 and one quarter inches wide by 33 inches deep by 28 inches high. The single drawer measures 22 and one quarter inches by 4 inches.
