Period Antique English Queen Anne period drop leaf table with padded spoon feet, made circa 1760. The beautiful rich grain (and weight) of Cuban mahogany is unmistakable. This wood was so desirable that the Cuban mahogany forests were harvested to extinction by the middle of the 19th century. This table has a double gate on each end to support the open leaves, which is a most unusual feature. We believe the hinges were stamped WC by the metalsmith, not the cabinetmaker. Eighteenth century English furniture makers almost never marked their furniture. However, furniture owners often marked their names on pieces, at the behest of their insurers. A furniture depository is a warehouse, and the Mousell Bros. label only indicates that at some point during the 19th century, this table was stored and or sold there
