Arts and crafts oak arm chair
ITEM# 4337
 This American Arts and Crafts oak chair is a transition piece, which is a blend of design elements from a certain time span (in this case the third quarter of the 19th century). The shaped seat apron and the cut-out moldings beneath the arms are a Victorian aesthetic. The caned back and seat, with round-edge molded frame come from the Art Nouveau designs of the Thonet brothers and the Kohn brothers. The slatted sides, flat armrests, and quarter-sawn oak frame are typical Arts and Crafts features (but true Arts and Crafts construction is beefier, with visibly mortised joints). It was probably made in Chicago about 1900. In the book Chicago Furniture 1833-1983, by Sharon Darling, 1984, We found a tiny photograph on page 245, taken from a 1905 House Beautiful Magazine, showing a remarkably similar chair. Unfortunately, no maker was credited

Thank you for your quick reply. I am really shocked at the price. I knew many people here wanted it, but probably figured I didn't know what I had and they wanted to buy it for nothing. I am glad I held on to it.
